Steel Yankees have been on the market for several years. In the last two years a stronger trend to this kind of Yankee cylinders can be noticed. Principally designed for the well known purposes, guiding the tissue sheet, drying of the sheet by contact heat transfer and enabling the creping process, there are several important differences between cast iron and steel Yankees. This paper presents a steel Yankee, explains its advantages and gives examples and comparisons of operating cost for different situations. A new Re-evaporation heat recovery is introduced, which is of special advantage together with a steel Yankee. Finally the use of a steel Yankee in a TAD machine is discussed.
