Flexographic inks set and dry too rapidly to be characterized by common ink setting tack tests. To accommodate this challenge, a new laboratory method in combination with micro-tack device was developed to measure water-based ink interaction with coatings. This new method was used to investigate nine different double-coated and super-calendered paper interactions with a flexographic cyan ink. Reasonable tack rise and decline curves were obtained.
