PID loop interactions and process disturbances are leading sources of process variability and instability in all industrial settings. The advanced methods to deal with these (decoupling and feedforward control) have existed for decades, yet are seldom used or used incorrectly. This is because these techniques rely on 'textbook' methods to obtain the needed process models. This paper will show you how to employ new tools to easily obtain the effects of interaction and disturbances on your process (the models) and how to use these to reduce or eliminate loop interactions and the effects of disturbances. The tools can be used to perform tests while the process is running normally. A highly interactive process common to industry with a continuous disturbance will be presented to illustrate the solution with before and after results shown.
