The surface coating of paper is a process with particular needs for drying compared to the traditional dryer section of a paper machine. Drying by steam-heated cylinders is not possible as long as the coating layer is not fully stabilized, as the intense contact with a drying cylinder would impact the final surface characteristics drastically.
