Summary of ISS conversion at the Grenada Resolute TMP mill, 2016 International Mechanical Pulping (IMPC) Conference
The resolute Grenada mill converted its regular two stage TMP process into the ISS process in the summer of 2014. The conversion of the Grenada mill to the ISS process met the target of savings at least
fifteen percent (15%) of refining energy at equal pulp quality. The second target of increasing peak operating rate is limited by the Long Fiber refiners load ability and the disc filter hydraulic capacity. The
mill has adopted a new structure for the power contract that reflects the reality of the lower maximum peak production operating rate. The mill has embarked on a refiner control improvement and Long Fiber
refiner segment development that is ongoing. This effort will maintain pulp and paper quality while maximizing the refining energy savings.
