Cluster Rule - Practical Aspects of Bleach Plant Conversion, 1998 Cluster Rule Symposium Proceedings
With the final promulgation of the Cluster Rules, companies are now faced with the challenge of evaluating the options available for modifying conventional bleach sequences to configurations that meet the restraints established by EPA. The majority of mills will attempt to reconfigure the existing bleach lines with a smaller minority looking at entirely new lines. With this in mind this paper will evaluate some of the options available for a fully bleached pulp by taking a hypothetical mill through the evaluation process. The paper will focus on the equipment modifications required, the cost of construction, the demolition and general arrangement demands of these modifications, and lastly, the operating cost evaluation of each sequence. The cost of an entirely new line will be briefly discussed, as well.
