Condensate "Hardpiping" or "Recycling" Options", 1998 Cluster Rule Symposium Proceedings
As an alternative to condensate steam stripping in treatment of regulated condensates for removal of HAP’s, the MACT I regulation allows facilities to either "Hardpipe" regulated condensate to a wastewater treatment system capable of 92% HAP removal or "Recycle" regulated condensate to an "enclosed" unit process. For the most part, the "Hardpiping" and "Recycle" HAP emission control options require the same condensate segregation, condensate pretreatment, condensate handling, and process integration considerations as exist with the condensate steam stripping option. condensate volume, substantially black liquor, The regulated and fiber content must be controlled to exercise any one of the three condensate treatment options. Furthermore, as is the case for condensate steam stripping, the problems associated with integration into process operations (or wastewater treatment system) must be considered if the "Hardpipe" or "Recycle" options are chosen.
In difference to the steam stripping option, additional condensate pretreatment for the control of heat, TRS emissions, and volatile HAP compounds may be required if either the "Hardpipe" or "Recycle" condensate treatment options are selected. This symposium presentation will address the additional pretreatment, process integration, and compliance considerations associated with the "Hardpipe" and "Recycle" condensate treatment options.
