My TAPPI Story: Naomi Gehling
Wood chip properties have a profound impact on the quality of pulps. Of particular interest in this research is the effect of chip properties on pulp brightness: on one hand, pulp brightness is often the main client criterion; on the other hand, it involves bleaching agents which have environmental impacts. In this paper we present a neural network model for predicting peroxide charges required to maintain pulps to a required brightness level, according to fluctuations in chip properties as recorded by a Chip Management System (CMS) apparatus.
