Calendering of Newsprint with D.I.P., 1992 Finishing and Converting Conference Proceedings
Today, 85% of the total waste paper market is used without deinking in linerboard and fluting medium for packaging grades. The remaining 15 % is deinked and used in the manufacturing of newsprint, tissue, printing/writing grades and market pulp. By the year 2001, it is expected that 24% of recycled fiber consumption will be used in deinked pulp (DIP) furnishes. Of this DIP furnish, over half of this will be used in newsprint. (1).
Raw material cost, quality, availability, as well as technological improvements in fiber processing and political legislation all contribute to this growth of DIP as a paper making raw material.
