Sulfur Dioxide Emission Dependency on Kraft Recovery Boiler Operation Parameters, 2004 International Chemical Recovery Conference

This paper compares sulfur dioxide emission dependency on recovery boiler operation parameters. The comparison is based on actual data from 25 operating boilers with a wide black liquor firing load range from 200 up to 4000 tDS/day, and a dry solids content from 60% up to 80+%.

In this paper we will discuss how SO2 emissions depend on boiler parameters, e.g. boiler heat load , i.e. “burning intensity” and liquor quality. The liquor qualities are dry solids content, sulfur to sodium and potassium ratio and the corresponding dust properties are carbonate content and dust pH. The actual operating data is furthermore compared to theoretical findings concerning SO2 emission.
