Behaviour of Non-Process Elements in the Kraft Recovery System, 1998 International Chemical Recovery Conference Proceedings

The behaviour of non-process elements in the chemical recovery and recausticizing areas of four kraft mills and one acid sulphite mill was studied. Enrichment factors in the precipitator dust were found to average 2.69, 1.68, and 2.44 for the elements chloride, potassium, and zinc, respectively. Good green liquor clarification will be required for metals removal, if a kraft mill is considering recycling of bleach plant effluents. Results from an acid sulphite mill indicate that the build up of Ca, Al, Mg, Mn, Fe, and Zn may be controllable through the dregs output. Bleeding lime mud from recausticizing will reduce the levels of Al, Mg, Mn, and Fe in white liquor and in the mills’ liquor system as shown by both mill and lab data.
