Casting, BIAX Orientation, & Processing Equipment, 2002 PLACE Conference Proceedings
In any continuous process operation, the final product quality is basically a combination of four factors:
- The proper raw material
- Proper & Dependable Equipment
- Accurate & tested process recipe information
- Motivated and skillful operators
If these four factors are carefully monitored, designed, documented, and encouraged then the final product can do
nothing but garner accolades and orders from the purchasing public, and profits plus growth for the producing company.
This paper will touch briefly on the equipment at the front end of the line, and concentrate on the machinery that
performs the quenching, orientation, and annealing of the material, giving the unique properties to the final product. It is a
review of the basics of orientation as it relates to the machinery and processing operation, and will present some selection
criteria, that will help the end users specify the best equipment for their individual needs.
