Headbox Approach System, 1991 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
The efficient performance of modern paper machines is dependent upon many factors. One of those factors that affects both machine runnability and sheet quality is the cleanliness of the headbox approach system.
The selection of pipe and equipment internal finishes, as well as pipe and equipment flanges, are important in providing a system that remains clean during operation and contributes to production of paper that has minimum contamination. Sheet contamination contributes to poor runnability, especially on coated grades. This paper reviews pipe design standards and offers a guide to pipe and equipment flanges and internal finishes.
