Agitator performance is affected by the type of stock, its consistency and temperature, as well as the size and shape of the chest. Minor changes in some of these variables can result in a major change in agitator performance. By understanding the relative effect of these variables the papermaker can avoid unnecessary agitation problems. Data presented illustrates the variables to be considered and how each relates to agitator performance.
