This paper gives background on the development of sonic sheet testing in the paper industry and its use in the prediction of strength properties.

Instrument design and improvement is discussed and briefly as well a possible future developments.

An example of the use of sonic sheet measurement data to predict bursting strength of fluff pulp is discussed. The benefits in both speed and accuracy of Sonic Testing are discussed.
