My TAPPI Story: Eupidio Scopel
The authors are interested in quantifying stickies contamination in recycled pulps. Previously the method involved manual counting / visual estimation of stickies deposited on a filter paper. Although this method was useful in identifying types of stickies it was found to be slow and tester dependent.
The new method uses a standard document laminator to transfer the stickies from the filter paper to transparency sheets. The resulting image is read by image analysis software.
This method is found to be a fast and reproducible test for quantification of stickies. The results give a measure of stickies contamination in recycled pulps. The resulting data can also provide particle size distribution changes related to process changes.
