Charcterization Of Facial Tissue Softness, 2004 Paper Summit, Spring Technical & International Environmental Conference, (including Papermakers; Process Control, Electrical & Information; Product & Product Quality)

Tissue softness is one of the most consumer-desired properties. But its quantitative characterization is challenging. This study systematically investigated the effects of various tissue physical properties, and provided detailed analysis. A three-parameter softness model based on the CD to MD tensile ratio, surface arithmetic roughness and average elastic modulus was developed for commercial facial tissue made by creping technology, and was shown to be able to predict facial tissue softness with high precision. The model shows the potential to be used for on-line tissue softness monitoring.
