My TAPPI Story: Dave Maddux
W. Wizani, W. Juljanski, A. Krotscheck, R. Bito--The CBC process is a further logical development of displacement batch cooking technology, combining the advantages of batch operation with the continuous preparation of cooking liquors in the tank farm. Alkali concentration and temperature of the process liquors are adjusted by continuous addition of cooking chemicals and steam in the tank farm only. CBC utilizes minimum equipment, thus saving investment cost and simplifying operation and process control. The special liquor management shortens the cooking cycle and boosts capacity while maintaining superior pulp quality and yield. The advantages of this process, which can be applied to both modernization projects and new cooking plants, are discussed based on mill data obtained from the CBC reference installation in Nettingsdorf / Austria and on results from bleaching tests.
