Chip Preparation Methods and its Application on Frozen Chips, 1990 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Chip preparation is becoming an important factor in the production of high quality pulp. Winter conditions pose certain operational problems on the quality of the chips delivered to the process. Chippers produce a higher percentage of lower quality wood under winter conditions. Chip receiving, conveying, stacking and reclaiming methods and equipment are discussed with emphasis placed on the effect on chip quality. Chip screening and pre-steaming can reduce winter related problems as well as improving the overall pulp quality.
