Kraft Black Liquor Fractionation by Ultrafiltration, 1994 Pulping Conference Proceedings

S. Luque, J. R. Alvarez, M. Rodriguez, J. Coca

A potential use of Kraft black liquors is in the adhesive industry. Fractionation of the lignin present in the black liquors can lead to a high molecular weight fraction suitable for adhesive manufacture.

Ultrafiltration of black liquors appears to be an effective separation method of low and high molecular weight lignins. Experiments with membranes of different molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) ranging from 4000 to 100,000 Dalton have been carried out to determine the degree of separation of lignin.
