My TAPPI Story: Leslie Petrie
- C. Wiseman, T. Wilson, M. Tielbaard -- An Internal Circulating Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (IC-UASB) Reactor was chosen for the kraft foul condensate treatment portion of the MACT 1 rules at Boise Cascade's Jackson, Alabama mill. Construction bagan in January of 1999 and was completed in early June 1999. An evaporator segregation project was completed in the same time frame, reducing the volume of evaporator foul condensates for treatment. The system is designed to treat all named streams. The anareobic system achieves better than 95% methanol removal. methanol is converted to a methane rich biogas, which is burned in the mill's combination boiler. All tanks are connected to the mill's high volume low concentration NCG system. The system successfully meets MACT 1 standards.
