Colour and COD Removal by Ultrafiltration from Paper Mill Effluent: Semi Industrial Pilot Test Results, 1993 Environmental Conference Proceedings

Ultrafiltration is one of the well adapted possible method for the removal of stable substances, toxic substances and/or substances with a bio accumulation potential. Two plate and frame and four mineral tubular membranes have been experimented on a lab scale. To remove colour and COD from coloured effluent of a paper mill. Ultrafiltration of total effluent showed a colour removal of 79-91% and COD removal of 74-88%. We have then selected one of these membranes to be tested on a 20 sqm three stage semi-industrial plant for a long continuous run. 12 months after starting up, no change in performance has appeared. All results of this work are presented and discussed in this paper.
