Coextrusion Feedblocks for Multiple Applications, 1990 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
This paper will focus on design features required for coextrusion feedblocks and how the design will vary for sheet, cast film and extrusion coating. We will review the basic equipment layouts of each of the processes.
We will show how the layer control plates (LCP’s) can be used to effect major coextrusion structure changes. The location of these LCP’s on the feedblock can be varied to allow for easy access during coextrusion product changes. In sheet coextrusion the LCP’s will pivot out of the feedblock. In cast film they can simply be lifted off the top of the feedblock while in extrusion coating the LCP’s can be side mounted.
We will also look at the required flow calculations in the design of a specific feedblock for use in extrusion coating.
