Votorantim Celulose e Papel (V.C.P.) carried out a successful start up of an on machine coating operation in one of their standard woodfree paper machine located in Piracicaba obtaining high quality printing off set paper.

The Piracicaba Mill is a non-integrated mill located in the state of Sao Paulo southease of Brazil and produces a full range of specialty papers using 100% eucalyptus short fiber pulp.

In 1997 after many studies it was decided to add to its range of specialty papers coated on machine grades, following with further technical and process investigations to select the most suitable equipment and control systems for this application.

This article covers the most important areas that were considered for this project including paper characteristics.
