Celebrating 50 years, remembering the division's role in corrugating history, Corrugating International, October 2000, Vol. 2(4)
Tempus Fugit. It seems that only yesterday that I wrote a piece on the Division’s 40th anniversary. TAPPI itself began in 1917, but was solely geared to papermakers until 50 years ago. The realization that paperboard packaging consumed half of all paper in the United States finally secured the initiation of the TAPPI Container Division. One of the important consequences was the recognition that containerboard was an engineering material, constituting a separate technology and a worthy subject of study for technical professionals. On the 40th anniversary, I discussed development of the materials and testing technology and instruments up to that date.
