Press section economic evaluation, Technical Information Paper TIP 0404-22 (2024)
Scope: Wet pressing is important to the overall economics of the papermaking process. This Technical Information Paper provides a uniform method of evaluating the performance of a paper machine wet press section in terms of economic factors. The following items are included:
- A list of factors which are of economic importance to the operation of a press or a press section
- Explanation of the importance of each factor
- Suggested methods for evaluating or estimating each factor
- A uniform method for reporting the results
Methods of cost accounting are not consistent, so the outline provided in this TIP will need to be adapted by each paper mill.
The example which is attached illustrates the suggested procedure and does not reflect any particular mill. This example deals with evaluating press clothing. The same general techniques can be applied to other process changes, equipment changes, etc.
These guidelines allow economic studies of wet pressing to be compared between mills.
