Containerboard moisture content at TAPPI standard conditions
Robert H. Quick
To get accurate conditioned moisture content, a mill needs to determine the conditioned moisture content for both linerboard and corrugating medium.
A detailed study of the conditioned moisture content of liner-board and corrugating medium was conducted in Weyerhaeuser’s Research and Development (R&D) Containerboard Laboratory. TAPPI test methods were followed very carefully. Seven mills were involved in this study. General observations were that the containerboard made from predominantly recycled fiber had a lower conditioned moisture content and less variation between mills than containerboard made from predominantly virgin kraft or semi-chemical fiber. To get the most accurate conditioned moisture content, each mill should determine the moisture content for both linerboard and corrugating medium.
