THE DIGESTER IS ONE OF THE major unit operations in the chemical pulping process, and its proper control is essential to produce uniform and quality paper products at minimum cost. In addition, environmental concerns and regulations in the paper industry necessitate better monitoring and control of pulping processes to achieve extended delignification. Better control of pulping results not only in improved pulp quality but also in reduced toxic effluent from bleach plants and increased energy savings.
