In 1927, Douglas Fir sawmill residuals were burned as a waste: Longview Fibre Company began its operation utilizing this plentiful and inexpensive fiber resource. Times have changed! Pacific Northwest sawmill residuals are now costly and sometimes difficult to obtain. Therefore, Longview Fibre has maximized its yield of fiber resources by utilizing a more diverse blend of raw materials, and by raising kraft pulping yield via anthraquinone(AQ) addition.
