The sorption of sulfide in wood was studied under different process conditions and with different compositions of the pretreatment liquor. This sulfide sorption is of importance in the development of modified kraft pulping with improved selectivity. Furthermore different kinds of black liquor and black liquor components were also studied. The aim was to find out whether or not the dissolved substances in the black liquor participate in the delignification process and thus increase the delignification rate.
