A study was undertaken to determine the effects of dispersible type of anthraquinone (DAQ) on the yield and quality of kraft pulp for douglas fir. When the cooking conditions are controlled to obtaining pulps with kappa number 30, the addition of 0.05% DAQ can be expected to reduce the alkali charge from 18.5% to 17.3% and to increase pulp yield from 46.5% to 47.8%. 0.1% DAQ and 0.2% DAQ increased pulp yield, to 48.9% and 49.8%, respectively. The effect of DAQ on the pulp yield and quality for kraft pulping was also compared with that of normal anthraquinone.
