Kraft pulping with polysulfide is well known to increase pulp yields, but was generally found to decrease tear strength. The Extended Modified Continuous Cooking (EMCC®) process has been shown to extend cooking softwoods to about a 18 kappa number with excellent pulp strength. In this study, the effect of combining extended modified cooking with polysulfide pulping was investigated in the laboratory.
