New technical standards are now available from NFPA
The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) represents 250 U.S. and multinational
manufacturers of hydraulic and pneumatic products and systems. Based in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, NFPA coordinates standards development for
fluid power at the industry, national and international levels. NFPA is
Secretariat of the Fluid Power Committee B93, an independent standards
development committee accredited by the American National Standards Institute.
NFPA also serves as the secretariat of ISO Technical Committee 131 (ISO/TC
131), which is responsible for the development of international standards
for fluid power. ISO, ANSI and NFPA standards are intended as guides to
aid the manufacturer, the consumer and the user.
Twelve new technical standards have recently been published and are
now available from the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA). Each new
standard is described briefly below.
ISO
3601-1:2002 Fluid power systems—O-rings—Part 1:
Inside diameters, cross-sections, tolerances and size identification code.
This part of ISO 3601 specifies the inside diameters, cross-sections,
tolerances and size identification code for O-rings used in fluid power
systems for general purpose applications (series G), as well as for aerospace
and similar applications (series A). The dimensions and tolerances specified
in this part of ISO 3601 are suitable for any elastomeric material, provided
that suitable tooling is available.
Price per copy: $33.00 (list), $28.00 (NFPA members)
ISO 6162-1:2002 Hydraulic fluid power—Flange
connectors with split or one-piece flange clamps and metric or inch screws—Part
1: Flange connectors for use at pressures of 3,5 MPa (35 bar) to 35 MPa
(350 bar), DN 13 to DN 127. This part of ISO 6162 specifies complete
general and dimensional specifications for flange heads, split flange
clamps (FCS), one-piece flange clamps (FC) and ports applicable to four-screw,
split and one-piece flange clamp type tube and hose connectors for use
at pressures of 3,5 MPa (35 bar) to 35 MPa (350 bar).
Price per copy: $51.00 (list), $44.00 (NFPA members)
ISO 6162-2:2002 Hydraulic fluid power—Flange
connectors with split or one-piece flange clamps and metric or inch screws—Part
2: Flange connectors for use at pressures of 35 MPa (350 bar) to 40 MPa
(400 bar), DN 13 to DN 51. This part of ISO 6162 specifies complete
general and dimensional specifications for flange heads, split flange
clamps (FCS), one-piece flange clamps (FC) and ports applicable to four-screw,
split and one-piece flange clamp type tube and hose connectors for use
at pressures of 35 MPa (350 bar) to 40 MPa (400 bar).
Price per copy: $51.00 (list), $44.00 (NFPA members)
ISO 6195:2002 Fluid power systems and components—Cylinder-rod
wiper-ring housings in reciprocating applications—Dimensions
and tolerances. This International Standard specifies dimensions and
tolerances of housings for wiper rings used in reciprocating rod applications
for fluid power cylinders.
Price per copy: $44.00 (list), $37.00 (NFPA members)
ISO 6605:2002 Hydraulic fluid power—Hoses and
hose assemblies—Test methods (second edition). This
International Standard specifies uniform test methods for evaluating the
performance of hose assemblies (hoses and attached hose fittings) used
in hydraulic fluid power systems.
Price per copy: $40.00 (list), $34.00 (NFPA members)
ISO/TR 10949:2002 Hydraulic fluid power—Component
cleanliness—Guidelines for achieving and controlling cleanliness
of components from manufacture to installation (second edition). This
Technical Report gives guidelines for achieving, evaluating and controlling
the cleanliness of hydraulic fluid power components from the time of their
manufacture through to their installation in a hydraulic fluid power system.
This document can be used to ensure that hydraulic components are cleaner
when they arrive at installation, and cleaner components contribute to
cleaner, and thus more reliable, hydraulic systems.
Price per copy: $36.00 (list), $31.00 (NFPA members)
ISO/TR 16144:2002 Hydraulic fluid power—Calibration
of liquid automatic particle counters—Procedures used to
certify the standard reference material SRM 2806. This Technical Report
describes the procedures used by the U. S. National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) for the certification of the calibration material
SRM 2806, which is used in the primary calibration of liquid automatic
particle counters.
Price per copy: $51.00 (list), $44.00 (NFPA members)
ISO 18413:2002 Hydraulic fluid power—Cleanliness
of parts and components—Inspection document and principles
related to contaminant collection, analysis and data reporting. This
International Standard specifies the content of an inspection document
that includes both the cleanliness requirement for the specified part
or component and the inspection method to be used for evaluating its cleanliness
level. This standard can improve communication about component cleanliness
between suppliers and users of hydraulic components and provides valuable
information about how cleanliness can be specified and verified, subject
to agreement.
Price per copy: $68.00 (list), $58.00 (NFPA members)
NFPA/T2.13.2 R4-2002 Hydraulic fluid power—Fire
resistant fluids—Information report on company trade names.
This information report has been prepared to aid the user in identifying
a fire resistant fluid as to its type and supplier.
Price per copy: $33.00 (list), $23.00 (NFPA members)
NFPA/T2.30.4 R1-2002: Recommended practice—Fluid
power systems—Application guidelines for selection of fluid
power position transducers. This document identifies the factors involved
in selecting a reliable and functional position transducer. Because this
standard is an application guideline, it is available for free PDF download
on the NFPA website at www.nfpa.com, in the Standards/Technical Resources
section.
NFPA/T3.12.17-2002 Recommended practice—Pneumatic
fluid power—Filters, regulators and lubricators—Application
guidelines addresses the application of filters, regulators, and lubricators
in a pneumatic fluid power system. This recommended practice also provides
guidelines for the selection, sizing, installation, operation, and other
good practices for pneumatic filters, regulators and lubricators. Because
this standard is an application guideline, it is available for free PDF
download on the NFPA website at www.nfpa.com, in the Standards/Technical
Resources section.
NFPA/T3.19.25 R1-2002 Information report—Fluid
