Roger D. Blackwell's keynote address, Corrugating International, Winter 2003 (64KB)
What we would like to do is understand how to grow profits in these very competitive times. What we have seen is a tremendous emphasis on supply chain efficiency and, my friends, you must, if you’re from a North American country, realize that increasingly we are a global society. It really doesn’t matter what your labor rates are here; they will be lower some place else and the question is, do you have enough productivity built into the system in the supply chain in order to compete? Even with much lower wage rates in other parts of the world, the only way you can compete with that is supply chain efficiency. You might say, "that’s not fair". It doesn’t matter if it’s fair or not; that is the reality and the answer is supply chain efficiency.
