Dryer bars improve drying from the inside out, Solutions!, July 2003, Vol. 86(7) (184KB)
The axial bars fitted inside drying cylinders on a paper machine are the sort of equipment most papermakers want to fit and forget. If properly spaced, they do their job of generating turbulence in the rimming layer of the condensate. The increased turbulence provides increased drying capacity and improved drying uniformity. The resulting benefits often include improved runnability, quicker dryer temperature response time after a sheet break, and reductions in operating steam pressure.
