Buckeye Technologies Inc. announced the promotion of
Christian Chavassieu to senior vice president, wood cellulose.
Jeffrey T. Cook was elected senior vice president,
product and market development and Douglas L. Dowdellwas elected senior vice president, nonwovens.
Caraustar Industries Inc. announced that Eric R. Zarnikowhas been added as a new independent member to its
board of directors.
Georgia-Pacific Corp. has elected Thomas D. Bell, Jr., president
and CEO of Cousins Properties, as a director.
James B.C. Doak has joined the board of Cascades Inc.
Kimberly-Clark named Kim Feil vice president and senior
marketing officer.
NCT Forestry Co-operative Ltd. (NCT) has appointed
Sikhathini Fanie Phama to its board of directors.
Robert C. “Bob” Mai has been promoted to vice president,
sales, for Potlatch Corp.’s wood products division.
Plum Creek Timber Co.’s board of directors has elected Ian
B. Davidson chairman of the board.
SCA’s nomination committee has proposed the re-election
of the current board members; Rolf Börjesson, Sören Gyll,
Tom Hedelius, Sverker Martin-Löf, Anders Nyrén, Indra Åsander and Jan Åström. It also proposed that Sverker
Martin-Löf be appointed chairman.
Doyle R. Simons has been named executive vice president,
and J. Bradley Johnston, chief administrative officer
of Temple-Inland Inc.
Unisource Worldwide Inc. named James M. Lynde senior
vice president of human resources.
Juha Mäkelä has been appointed general counsel of UPMas of May 2, 2005, when UPM’s current general counsel,
Reko Aalto-Setälä, will retire. Christer Härkönen has been
named senior vice president of UPM Rafsec and a member
of Raflatac’s management team.
Victor Creighton has been named national accounts
manger for Wausau Paper.
Weyerhaeuser Co. announced that Shaker Chandrasekaranhas been named vice president, cellulose
fibers manufacturing, replacing James E. Watson, who
will be retiring in August. Thomas F. Gideon has been
named senior vice president, timberlands. He succeeds
Jack P. Taylor, who has retired.
David Akin is now a partner with the Williams-Gray Co. He replaces Jim Ragus, who has retired.

Adhesives Research Inc. announced the promotion of Greg
Andrews to market manager for the splicing business
unit’s web processing group.
Paula H. J. Cholmondeley had been elected to the board
of directors of Albany International Corp.
Dennis Hultgren has taken a senior management position
as principal consultant with ENVIRON International.
Minerals Technologies elected Kirk G. Forrest vice president,
general counsel and secretary of the company.
OMNOVA Solutions appointed James J. Hohman president,
performance chemicals.
Michael Knutsson has been named sales manager-Scandinavia
for the Sandusky Group.
Thermal Systems Group Inc. (TSG) has merged with its sister
company, Southern Erectors Group Inc. John Ballardwill continue to head up the TSG division.
AWARDS
Staff and retirees of the Pulp and Paper Research Institute
of Canada (Paprican) were honored for their outstanding
achievements at the 91st Annual Meeting of the Pulp and
Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC). Don May received the
John S. Bates Memorial Gold Medal, PAPTAC’s
most prestigious award.
Jean Hamel received the F.G. Robinson Committee Service
Award for his imaginative and productive leadership
of PAPTAC’S Paper Machine Technology Committee.
Norm Liebergott was awarded Honorary Life Membership
in PAPTAC for outstanding service to the industry in the
area of chemical and mechanical pulp bleaching.
Ian Pye received a certificate in recognition of his 50
years of service as a member of PAPTAC.
Herbert O. Teeple, retired TAPPI staff member, was presented
a 50-year membership plaque during the TAPPI
Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony on February 23,
2005 in Tampa, Florida.
RETIREMENTS
Lynn Burch, Thiele Kaolin North American sales manager,
will retire effective June 1, 2005. Burch joined Thiele in
1991 after a distinguished career in the gypsum industry.
During Burch’s tenure, Thiele experienced 35% growth in
domestic sales.
