Applications of Best Available Technologies (Bat) For Integrated Environmental Management, 2005 Engineering, Pulping & Environmental Conference
Century Pulp and Paper has adopted certain techniques towards integrated environmental strategy to processes and products as a pro active approach to be clean. Company’s environment management system encompasses education and training, motivation to operators, process control optimization and efficient maintenance through total productive maintenance, cleaner production options and an elaborate waste water treatment.
The case study outlines successful implementation of BAT towards sustainability and resource conservation and benefits derived thereof; viz. application of digester aids, bio technological means (enzymes) for bleaching and refining of pulp, recycling and reuse of process water and byproducts and effective spill control and containment. Findings of periodic environmental impact assessment (EIA), energy audits, equipment modifications made, gains through total productive maintenance and waste water treatment are discussed.
