Specificity of Kraft Pulp Bleaching With Xylanase-A Key Factor in Cost Benefit Analysis, 2005 Engineering, Pulping & Environmental Conference

PressWeb.jpg

Xylanase treatment can allow kraft mills to increase production, save on bleaching chemicals, or achieve a higher brightness end product. However, increased BOD load to effluent treatment has been reported, and the question of losses in bleaching yield has often been raised. In this paper, we review the actual bleaching yields measured for four pulps, and suggest ways to reduce yield loss, either by modifying the chemical bleaching stages or by including enzymes with higher specificity.
