Need Analysis, 2005 Engineering, Pulping & Environmental Conference
The emergence of global competition has drastically altered the environment. Historically our market competition was the guy down the street; the challenge was clear, deliver a better product at a better price and the customers would come. Today that challenge has taken on a whole new dimension, we still have to beat the guy down the street, but the street stretches to all corners of the globe and the competition may well be another manufacturing plant within our own companies. Countries that were once export customers have installed their own indigenous capacity and are now not only fulfilling their own domestic needs, but are competing with the United States for the dwindling remaining export opportunities.
