Correlation Between Nodule size and Residual Carbonate Content in Lime Kilns, 2005 Engineering, Pulping & Environmental Conference

PressWeb.jpg

Field studies were performed on several lime kilns to establish a correlation between the size of reburned lime nodules and their residual carbonate content. The results show that nodules smaller than 20 to 30 mm in diameter have a low, uniformly distributed residual carbonate content, while nodules larger than this critical size have an un-calcined core, and thus contain significantly more residual carbonate. In mills where only small nodules are tested for residual carbonate, there is a good possibility that a large amount of lime mud deadload is unknowingly circulating in the lime cycle.
