My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
The objective of this research is to develop intelligent sensors that will be used to sort recovered paper before the paper is fed to a recycling plant. The following paper outlines the preliminary research work that was carried out to develop a fast-acting, non-contact type stiffness sensor. The deflections of various paper samples under a prescribed load are obtained. The behavior of the samples with respect to various parameters that affect the bending stiffness of the samples both in cross-machine direction and machine direction is studied. The experimental test data was compared with the data obtained from the finite element analysis of the test samples under the same loading conditions.
