Weyerhaeuser Johnsonburg reduced 2003 coal-fired boiler NOx emissions by over 40% (compared to 2002) using existing components. This paper will explain: Issues considered before implementation; How the reduction was accomplished; Boiler performance and maintenance impacts. It will also provide general guidance regarding strategies that might be successful in other boilers with different equipment (some reduction can be achieved in most boilers without significant performance impacts) and issues that should be considered before implementation.
