Phosphate Fertilizer Value of Paper Mill Residuals, 2005 Engineering, Pulping & Environmental Conference
New federal strategies to limit phosphorus loading to agricultural fields will have an impact on many paper mills that are beneficially land-applying wastewater treatment residuals. The phosphate fertilizer value (PFV) of five paper mill residuals (PMR) was evaluated in long-term incubation studies to develop data for nutrient planning. In four out of the five PMR evaluated, the PFV was substantially lower than commercial fertilizer. The results of the incubation study also found the PFV in PMR to be dependent on the papermaking and wastewater treatment processes.
