Polarisation of a substrate can greatly improve its adhesion qualities. Applying a flame to a continues web does exactly this and if applied prior to further applications such as lamination, inks or adhesives enhances bonding. Flame treatment is widely used in a number of applications from the “Pre-treatment” of carton board before lamination to the “Post-treatment” of film such as prior to special coatings such as low adhesive backings.
