William Nahill joined Georgia-Pacific Corp. as chief procurement officer.

Glatfelter’s board of directors elected Dante C. Parriniexecutive vice president and COO.

Michael D. Duncan has been named president of the National Division of Gould Paper Corp.

Kia Aejmelaeus has been appointed as IR manager at Huhtamaki.

Paul L. “Larry” Brill has been appointed vice president-production for Longview Fibre’s Western container division. George L. Mitchell was promoted to manager of the Seattle, Washington container plant.

Thomas O’Connor, Jr. has been named chairman and CEO of Mohawk Paper Mills Inc.

SMART Papers announced three operations appointments at its Hamilton, Ohio manufacturing center and headquarters. Appointed are: Willis Blevins, vice president- manufacturing; Martin Forsythe, vice president-production control/planning and logistics; and Joe Bergeron, Hamilton operations manager.

Richard C. Wininger has been named vice president, Western Timberlands for Weyerhaeuser Co.

SUPPLIERS
Johan Olsson has been appointed as the new manager for the AF Group’s systems division.

Atlantic Scaffolding hired Al Brasauskas, CPA, as its new CFO.

BearingPoint Inc. announced that Reid Morrison will lead the global energy & chemicals practice.

Les Etscheidt was promoted to the new position of operations manager for Document Destruction and Recycling Services (DDRS).

Environline announced the addition of Charyl Smith as customer service coordinator.

Kemira appointed Hannu Melarti president of its pulp & paper chemicals business in North America.

Sun Chemical has named Jeff Hed account manager, West Coast for the company’s Performance Pigments North American sales team.

AWARDS
Office Depot Inc. announced that Tyler Elm, director of environmental affairs, has been recognized with the 2004 Forest Leadership Communication Award.

At PAPTAC’s business luncheon, February 10, an Honorary Life Membership was bestowed upon Norman Liebergott. In addition, W. Donald May was presented with the John S. Bates Memorial Gold Medal.

ASSOCIATIONS
James F. Lamb vice president, marketing and sales, Drives Inc., was re-elected president of the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA). Thomas Easterhouse, OPCO sales manager, Lubriquip Inc., was elected vice president.

James Crisp Gatewood, Jr. and Jacek Piotr Siry have been appointed to Herty Foundation Board of Trustees.

Scott Travers was elected chairman of PAPTAC for 2005.

RETIREMENTS
Amcor’s company secretary, Bert Guy, will be retiring at the end of April 2005, following 16 years of distinguished and valued service. Chesapeake Corp. announced that senior vice president Martin O’Connell intends to retire effective March 31, 2006.

DEATHS
Josef S. Gratzl passed away on December 2, 2004.

Donald Homer (Tommy) Thompson passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Thompson was active for many years in the ISA Pulp and Paper Industry Division (PUPID), including reviewing papers for the joint PUPID/TAPPI Process Control Conference.

Charles H. Power of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away in November 2004.
