Kemira appointed Hannu Melarti president of its pulp &

Sun Chemical has named Jeff Hed account manager, West

AWARDS
Office Depot Inc. announced that Tyler Elm, director of
environmental affairs, has been recognized with the 2004
Forest Leadership Communication Award.
At PAPTAC’s business luncheon, February 10, an Honorary
Life Membership was bestowed upon Norman Liebergott.
In addition, W. Donald May was presented with the John
S. Bates Memorial Gold Medal.
ASSOCIATIONS
James F. Lamb vice president, marketing and sales, Drives
Inc., was re-elected president of the Conveyor Equipment
Manufacturers Association (CEMA). Thomas Easterhouse,
OPCO sales manager, Lubriquip Inc., was elected vice

RETIREMENTS
Amcor’s company secretary, Bert Guy, will be retiring at
the end of April 2005, following 16 years of distinguished
and valued service.
Chesapeake Corp. announced that senior vice president Martin
O’Connell intends to retire effective March 31, 2006.
DEATHS
Josef S. Gratzl passed away on December 2, 2004.
Donald Homer (Tommy) Thompson passed away on Tuesday,
January 25, 2005. Thompson was active for many
years in the ISA Pulp and Paper Industry Division (PUPID),
including reviewing papers for the joint PUPID/TAPPI
Process Control Conference.
Charles H. Power of Summerville, South Carolina, passed
away in November 2004.
