Evaluating, Monitoring and Controlling the Flexographic Printing Process, 2005 PLACE Conference

There are two groups of people in the flexographic printing industry. Group one is the press operator or button pushers. The individuals that make up this group spend many hours fighting with the system or process. They are also many times quite amazed at the result good or bad and could not tell you how they got there. The second group is just the opposite and is quite successful at what they do. Those that are successful have learned to manage and control their process from beginning to end. One of the many keys to this success is the ability to read and interpret the signs on the printed sheet. This presentation will cover some of the foundational elements (signs) to include on jobs, why the signs are needed and how to interpret them. Participants will be exposed to five key targets and examples of these targets in use.

This is an entry level presentation. It is intended for managers, prepress, press operators, sales, customer service or those wanting to make the transition from press operator to printer.

Cordes Porcher is a Technical Specialist in High Graphics on Corrugated for Bobst Group USA. He travels internationally helping the flexographic industry improve and understand their printing process. Cordes brings 15 years of teaching experience to the industry with the last 13 spent in printing. Prior to joining Bobst Group, he served Smurfit-Stone as a technical consultant and prior to this he was the Facility Director for Clemson University's Printing and Converting Research Center where he developed and delivered training and testing programs for the flexographic industry and directed day to day operations. He is regularly involved in judging print competitions including TAPPI, AICC, Package Printing, and FTA. He has also published articles pertaining to the reproduction of images with the flexographic process and has presented many seminars pertaining to the same.
