Detecting and Managing Print Defects, A Comparison of Quality Control Strategies, 2005 PLACE Conference

It was not that long ago that visual web inspection systems were one of the fastest growing product categories in the converting industry. Tens of thousands of systems were installed on web presses all over the world - Flexo, Gravure and Offset. And for good reason, they generate an immediate ROI, a tangible, measurable impact on productivity, a reduction in waste and an improvement in print quality. And they continue to do so to this very day.

In recent years video systems have morphed into smarter, active print management systems. These are on-press devices that have both visual inspection capabilities and software modules that help the operator manage print quality. Such systems are extremely effective for register control, color monitoring, bar code verification and defect management.
