Utilizing a new method for determining the bound water content of a fiber, the effect of recycling at different refining levels is explored. For this study, the new bound water method and a new method involving AF Mareuseda long with WRV to determine the impact of recycling on fibers. With in this study, traditional hornification increases with refining. However, the new bound water technique shows more of a dependence on refining than the traditional WRV measurements and the nanoscale AFM measurements have no relationship with refining, but increase throughout recycling stages.
