The advancements in biopolymers have been eye-opening over the past year and are gaining momentum as buyer awareness heightens and fossil resources remain volatile. Oil prices have soared to more than $72 per barrel, and suppliers to the U.S. market are struggling because of trade constraints and international tensions. There is no indication that the rising oil prices will peak, stabilize or relieve any time soon. Attention to biopolymers has evolved out of necessity. There is a rush to develop PLA films that will be conducive to almost every produce packaging application. Advancements in PLA films are in high demand from suppliers, converters, retailers, and end users who are seeing the clear benefit of using such environmentally-friendly bio-products. Developments in PLA films cannot come soon enough for these groups and are extremely rewarding once successful and complete.
