Assessing the mass transfer of permeants through a polymer material is of key importance when determining the material’s end use. Mass transfer of permeants trough polymer membranes strongly depends on polymer morphology. Since polymer processing impacts the polymer morphology, our objective is to evaluate the relationship between mass transfer of permeants and polymer processing. A gravimetric system, including a Rubotherm electrobalance, was used to demonstrate important differences in the solubility parameters of benzaldehyde on polypropylene resin, sheet, and a thermoformed polyhedron container.
